NO TAMPUHAN ALLOWED. ONLY GOOD TIMES.
You will be surprised to know that this small town offers ideal places to visit and eat. If you want to relax on a morning, or you're hungry for lunch, may it be for merienda or to chill on a breezy evening, then this is the right place for you.
Tampuhan Cafe was named after Juan Luna's masterpiece, which is Tampuhan. As the name of the painting implies, the subject is a couple who appears to have a misunderstanding as they face away from each other.
THE PLACE
The cafe is at the ground floor of Casita, a large house in Hispanic style. Upon entering, you will be delighted by a very heritage-inspired ambiance. Chairs are "batibots", top of the tables are Capiz windows under glasses, old paintings posted on the wall and a board where a Batangaueno vocabulary is written- created especially for the tourists to educate themselves with a Batangueno word and how do you use it on a sentence as well. The cafe has an extension where they hold their acoustic nights. At the second floor, you will find more antique pieces that will definitely impress you. I was personally amazed by the old chess pieces, typewriter and the beds of course. They also offer bed and breakfast so if you want an old style royal-like sleep, I suggest you book one of their rooms.
THE FOOD
On my first visit, I had their Mocha Frappe (which is their best seller), crepe and brownies. The frappe was good, given the fact that they only have limited equipment. When we visited the place, I had the taste of their pasta, lemon bars and two of their drinks- Vanilla and Dark Rosy Mint. The vanilla frappe was heaven. The mint was a hit too. Better than the famous coffee shops can offer. For a cheaper value but for smaller size. I hope that in time, they can serve them into grande size too.
They also offer pizza which can serve two people. I got to try the pepperoni one and it was yellowcab-ish, only smaller and budget friendly! They also offer lomi, rice meals and other pastries.
MUST TRIES:
Taal Volcano Crepe. It is a very innovative offer by Tampuhan. It's their own version of Tapang Taal with a little bit of spice wrapped in a crepe.
Tomato Basil Pasta. The blend of the ingredients was pretty good in a right amount of serving.
Planted another bamboo,
Panda Girl
