Shoot what you love, they say. And who wouldn’t love to eat? As a certified foodie, I am adventurous when it comes to trying new café, restos and food.

Food is definitely life and food photography is lifer. It’s our way to share the good things, must try and innovative dishes to our family and friends. I love taking photos of my food because it boosts your creativity in showing off its best part. So now, I would like to share with you tips on how to give justice to your gastronomic plates.

I sometimes use my camera but I usually use smartphone in taking my foodie photos. It’s more convenient to capture the moment before everything goes to your stomach and it’s easier to share it online.

Now, here are FOUR EASY STEPS in capturing the most instagrammable food shot!

1. Good light is your best friend.

Having the perfect light allows you to showcase the beauty of your table/plates naturally. It can show the natural colour and bits of the food photo. While you can play with shadows, you have to watch out for the unnecessary ones. You can move around with your camera to find the best lighting for your photo.

2. Try different angles.

Flatlay is not the only way to go. While taking a photo from above the table looks so nice, it does not work every time. Some food photos are better when you take a close up or side shot.

3. Focus on what is important.

You either do a beautiful mess for flatlay photos or create a nice background for your food photo.
Just make sure that you don’t overdo the background and the food is still the star. Remove pieces that do not add value to the photo and just serve as distraction.

4. Touch up your photo.

When there’s little hope, post-processing is your life saver.
My favourite app is VSCO when it comes to editing my photo. Aside from the presets, you can do adjustments in brightness, contrasts, etc. Do a little edit on your food shot so it can look more appetising like increasing sharpness or adjusting contrast. Little edits can make big difference.

So there, I hope to see lots of food-fie, oops, food shots on your feed. Remember, click before you eattttt! *winks*
